You only get one chance per critter to cook the heart. Corozón de Alce Tacos last night for dinner. Elk heart 🫀🌮 tacos marinaded for twelve hours in @goyafoods Naranja Agria. It glazed up naturally over high heat for about 11 minutes total. Kiss it with some kosher salt, cube it and onto tortillas with some cheese and veggies.

A few weekends ago my boy and I schlepped up to Fort Collins to get my elk back from the one and only Matt from Rocky Mountain Headhunters. He uses dermestid beetles and the level of detail on this European mount is absolutely insane! So pleased to have preserved my first bull, and we'll find it a place of honor to hang, and watch over us.

@catiegetty and I took the kids to the @denvermuseumns yesterday and I almost managed to get a photographic Colorado grouse slam! Missed the ptarmigan, but they had the Prairie Chicken, Columbian Sharptail, Blue Grouse (Dusky), and Sage Grouse represented. Pretty neat considering the amount of time during the fall I try to run around the state looking for them. 😅

Blood on the snowblower. Took a trip up to Kremmli

Blood on the snowblower. Took a trip up to Kremmling on Friday and was awfully disappointed by the lack of snow on the ground. Usually we're buried under feet of snow by now and it's a real effort to get into our place. But I managed to get some ramming speed and wedge myself into the bottom of our driveway before wrestling with my old 10HP @craftsman tracked snowblower to clear out a path for doing some winter work and making our first approach in the spring a little easier.

However with our decidedly not flat driveway making the plunge to the roadbed meant tilting down the snowblower, tossing snow handily until the auger stalled and a loud thunk brought me to a halt. Busting a few knuckles and skinning my right index finger provided the snow beast with the blood sacrifice required to start back up and clear the driveway.

I really have to get that tractor.
